Rescue of unique books of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University

Description of the project

The «Rescue of unique books of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University» project is focused on protecting and conserving the unique library collections of the Central Scientific Library at Karazin University, which suffered damage due to wartime destruction. The damage to the historical library building has disrupted the temperature and humidity conditions essential for preserving rare editions. To prevent further deterioration of the collections, the project involves protecting the books in fireproof cabinets and creating digital copies for long-term storage and access through the global eScriptorium digital archive. This will help preserve cultural heritage not only for Ukraine’s residents but also for the global scientific community. The project aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goal 11, “Sustainable Cities and Communities,” as it aims to protect culturally significant heritage collections and ensure access to this knowledge for future generations.
